Designers in the Kitchen...














"Iron Chef" Orlando - Westye Group Style

There was something fishy going on at the Orlando ASID meeting on August 12th.

Hosted by The Westye Group It was a fantastic evening full of culinary delights all prepared on (or in) Wolf gas ranges, induction cook tops or wall/convection ovens by teams of designers led by professional chefs (and one Omicron Granite volunteer "chef"). Several members of the Florida North Board were present and served as judges for each of the three dishes prepared by five teams! Members from Vero, Palm Coast and Jacksonville as well as Orlando were present and chopped, diced and sliced as they competed to create the winning dish. Each team was challenged to create three dishes using snapper (the secret ingredient) and the results were judged on flavor, appearance and use of the secret ingredient..

Chef Chi of PF Chang's team hit a homerun and took top honors as the overall winning team with their Snapper Dumplings, Fish Cakes w/ Chili Mayo and Pan Seared Yellowfin w/ Veggies. All three dishes were delicious, beautiful and inventive.

Chef Will, The Westye Group corporate chef and his team took second place with their Choppino Snapper, Phylo Crusted Snapper and Whole Snapper en Papillote while Chef Nick of Hospitality Concepts Catering and his team created a fabulous Snapper w/ Blackberry Beurre Blanc dish that was a favorite of the judges.

Chef Josh of the Grand Bohemian and his team made a great showing with their Cashew Crusted Snapper and a wild card team led by Corey Dardiz of Omicron Granite (not a professinal chef) held their own against the pros with their Yellow Snapper w/Tomato & Onion Saute and Chorizo Sausage.

It was a fantastic event thanks to The Westye Group, all of the chefs and Orlando area DCC, Brianna Jones.
